13 Senators are now working on the American HealthCare Act (the GOP repeal and replace bill that passed the Senate); we offer opinions.
Maybe I wouldn’t feel this way if insurance rates were not so age discriminatory. If I could pay the same as someone half my age (and I know many people half my age who are only half as healthy as myself and husband), I wouldn’t see this as such a burden.

You must reapply for the affordability exemption at least annually to qualify for this exemption for that year. The definition of “affordable” has changed from 2015 to 2017 and may change again in the future. In 2017, if your lowest cost minimal essential coverage you are eligible for (whether employer-based or Marketplace) which costs more than 8.13% of the household income is eligible for this exemption. You can claim it on the 8965 – Exemptions form, but you’ll need to get this exemption through the marketplaces.

If you have health insurance, get sick, use your coverage, but then can’t work, so you don’t qualify for cost assistance, then you are in a bad place unless your state expanded Medicaid, or you have money saved up to pay for a health plan without assistance.
