My family and I currently live in Oregon and have the Oregon Health Plan for insurance. We are possibly going to be moving to Pennsylvania in late August of this year. I will also be nearly 8 months pregnant when we move. When can I sign up for insurance to be sure that I will be covered for labor and delivery? Do I have to be a Pennsylvania resident for a certain amount of time before I am able to be covered?

Answer

If you have to move from one state to another enroll at least 30 days before you move so your new coverage can start when the old one ends. You'll need to apply for a special enrollment period. Those who are in the middle of treatment and know they will move should consider getting a multi-state PPO so they have more flexibility when moving.
