I retired as a full time firefighter paramedic after 42 years. I have insurance from the ohio police and fire pension fund. I am a adjunct instructor at stark state college. Am I exempt from the 29 hours per week rule? thank you

Answer

Retiree coverage counts as Minimum Essential Coverage, so you won't owe the fee. For your employer, they have to offer you coverage if you are full-time (average of 30 or more hours a week over a 12 month period, or a reasonable method of accrediting hours). You don't have to take the coverage, and the only way they get a fine is if you get Marketplace tax credits or if hundreds of employees use the Marketplace and don't get tax credits.

So the college should be able to allow you to work full-time and simply not take the coverage.
