I am a LPR whose income is between 100% and 133%. I got heath insurance through Federal Marketplace in Texas. I intend to move to Washington DC. I would like to know if I could get health insurance there. I am a LPR.

Answer

If you are moving states and have lived in the country for less than 5 years or are low income you'll want to be aware of Medicaid and CHIP eligibly in your state. Some states will use state funds to expand Medicaid and CHIP to those with low incomes, in a limited number of states this includes legally present immigrants who have been in the country for less than 5 years. In all states any legally present immigrant can get coverage through the Marketplace, but they make between 100% - 400% of the Federal Poverty Level in Modified Adjusted Gross Income to get Marketplace coverage. When you move it will trigger a special enrollment period to get a new Marketplace plan.
