Does home ownership or savings account money count when determining eligibility for health insurance subsidy ? Thank you.

Answer

Assets are not counted for cost assistance subsidies on marketplace plans under the Affordable Care Act (ObamaCare). Only income is counted for premium tax credits and cost sharing reduction subsidies.

In general most healthcare assistance is based on income and not assets. However, in some very specific cases Medicaid for certain individuals may be impacted by assets, and for long term care through Medicaid assistance is impacted by assets. See "Medicaid Eligibility" for how certain individuals may be impacted and your assets" and for long term care see “Medicaid spend down.”
