Is there a Special Enrollment Period When Turning 26?

Our son is covered on our insurance until his 26th Birthday in July. Does he qualify for special enrollment and he doesn’t apply until July or does he have to do by feb 15th?

This answer doesn’t clearly explain the 120 day Special Enrollment Period. The answer states that the period starts 60 day before they turn 26 allowing them to enroll in a plan that will start when the old one ends.

So, my daughter will be 26 on Jan. 24, 2016. So, if the period starts
60 days before she turns 26 (November 24), what about the other 60 days? Does that 60 days extend after her 26th birthday?

So, if you have to apply before the 15th of the month the prior policy will expire, where does the other 60 days of the 120 day special enrollment period factor into the equation?
