Some States Reopen ObamaCare Enrollment For Coronavirus


Coronavirus (COVID-19) Special Enrollment

Some states have extended special enrollment under the Affordable Care Act (ObamaCare) due to coronavirus. The Trump administration is considering extending this to states that use the federal marketplace HealthCare.Gov as well.

State Deadlines for Coronavirus Special Enrollment

As of March 22, 2020 the following 12 states have extended enrollment due to coronavirus. Below are the deadlines for special enrollment due to coronavirus:[1]

  1. California special enrollment coronavirus deadline: June 30, 2020.
  2. Colorado special enrollment coronavirus deadline: April 3, 2020.
  3. Connecticut special enrollment coronavirus deadline: April 2, 2020.
  4. DC* special enrollment coronavirus deadline: Deadline not known.
  5. Maryland special enrollment coronavirus deadline: April 15, 2020.
  6. Massachusetts special enrollment coronavirus deadline: April 25th, 2020.
  7. Minnesota special enrollment coronavirus deadline: April 21.
  8. Nevada special enrollment coronavirus deadline: April 15, 2020.
  9. New York special enrollment coronavirus deadline: April 15, 2020.
  10. Rhode Island special enrollment coronavirus deadline: April 15, 2020.
  11. Vermont special enrollment coronavirus deadline: April 17, 2020.
  12. Washington special enrollment coronavirus deadline: April 8, 2020.

NOTE: Both DC and NM are requiring insurers to waive cost-sharing for treatment of non-COVID respiratory illnesses such as pneumonia and influenza. NOTE*: DC’s special enrollment period was not adopted in response to coronavirus, but is open to a broad group of people, including those who are uninsured.

TIP: For coronavirus special enrollment (COVID-19) start date for coverage depends on the date of enrollment. If you enroll by the 15th day of the month, coverage will start on the first day of the next month. Otherwise it starts the 1st of the month after.

Yes I think we need to allow everyone right now, particularly because of Covid-19, the ability to enroll in Obamacare because if someone gets the Virus he or she will spread it to other Citizens in the U.S. Give everyone in the U.S. RIGHT NOW the opportunity to Enroll. It is the HUMANE thing to do. ALL STATES!
