Denying Medication Instead of Service

I have had health care for most of my life. Right now I have to pay for it out of pocket because my husband is self employed and so am I. We just barely can afford those premiums but we need to keep insurance because we both have cronic conditions. Now that the insurance company cannot drop us because of our conditions, they have decided to stop paying for our medications. One of mine is Elmiron, very espensive, but the only FDA approved medication for Intersticial Cystitis. I have been on this medication for years and I don’t know what I will do.

I don’t have any answers for you, but I have the same fear as I also have a chronic condition and have been on my medication Pancreaze (I suffer from Pancreatic Insufficiency) for many many years. I completely feel your fear. I am still very young and still have a long life ahead of me. I pay pretty good premiums for my health care insurance and I have good prescription coverage, but fear the coverage will be discontinued due to the cost. This one medication costs 1360.00/mo. before insurance. I pay 291.00/mo. I have seen the cost of this medication (or Creon) in 12 years go from 40.00 (my cost) up to the now 291.00. in just one year it jumped over 100.00. I panic every single day about not being able to afford my medications and the major medical issues I will develop if I don’t take it. What is a person to do. When will we ever get help with these prescriptions? 🙁
